Abstract: Social media has completely changed how people communicate, obtain information. and participate in sociopolitical concerns. These digital platforms have promoted civic engagement and democratized communication, but they have also fuelled societal unrest by enabling the quick dissemination of false information, polarization, and mass mobilization.

With particular reference to Rajasthan, India, this study explores the complex relationship between social media content and societal unrest. This study shows that registration of the crime related to unrest in the society has drastically increased with the penetration of social media in the state.

The research explores the role of various forms of social media content including news, political discourse, viral trends, and user-generated narratives in influencing public opinion, shaping protests, and triggering societal disruptions. It employs a mixed-methods approach, combining large-scale data analytics of social media platforms with qualitative techniques such as interviews, case studies, and discourse analysis. Specific incidents of social and political turbulence in Rajasthan are analysed to understand how digital platforms serve as both enablers and regulators of conflict.

According to research work, social media has two sides: on the one hand, it increases awareness, gives voice to underrepresented groups, and supports grassroots activism. On the other hand, it speeds up the spread of divisive content, widens ideological gaps, and occasionally exacerbates tensions within communities.

Storytelling and offline events are greatly influenced by algorithmic biases, echo chambers, and the spread of false information. The study also emphasizes how various stakeholders including government officials, media outlets, and civil society organizations respond to the changing problems presented by digital communication.

By providing region-specific insights on the socio-political influence of social media in Rajasthan, this thesis significantly adds to the current debate on digital media and social stability. It emphasizes how crucial proactive media literacy initiatives, legal frameworks, and moral content regulation are to reducing instability brought on by digitalization while upholding the values of free speech and democratic expression.

The findings of the research hold particular relevance for policymakers, social scientists, technology companies, and media practitioners seeking to understand and address the complexities of social media-driven turbulence in Rajasthan.
