Abstract: ABSTRACT

The study is to highlight the rising issue of fake viral videos which are manipulated and disseminated in various forms which are misinformation, disinformation and deepfakes.

This research creates a necessity to discuss the upcoming scenarios with false news in form videos through social media platforms. People are connected through digital medium of media and using platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp & Twitter on which the opinions, values and beliefs are shared with social, Personal and professional groups. Sharing and exchanging thoughts, Ideas and belief on these mediums is becoming dangerous as with the help of audio and visual fake videos coming from unidentified sources shared widely in the groups to provoke and create hoax with political, religious, entertainment and informational content. The rise of social media platforms, such as WhatsApp, Twitter, and Facebook, has facilitated the rapid dissemination of information. enabling users to share and consume content at an unprecedented scale. However, along with the benefits of connectivity, these platforms have also witnessed the proliferation of fake viral videos. This study explores the prevalence and characteristics of fake viral videos on these platforms. It examines the mechanisms by which these videos gain traction, the factors contributing to their virality, and the potential motivations behind their creation.

Furthermore, the study investigates the specific implications of fake viral videos on WhatsApp, Twitter, and Facebook, considering their unique features and user dynamics. The rapid spread of misinformation through these videos can lead to the distortion of facts, the amplification of false narratives, and the manipulation of public sentiment. Secondly, the impact of fake viral videos varies across platforms. While WhatsApp's private nature may foster the spread of misinformation within closed circles, Twitter's fast-paced and public nature can contribute to the amplification of false content. Facebook, with its extensive user base and algorithmic curation, can inadvertently facilitate the viral spread of fake videos.

Moreover, the study examines the measures taken by these platforms to mitigate the impact of fake viral videos and explores the challenges in striking a balance between preserving freedoms of expression and curbing the dissemination of fake viral videos and how it is affecting the believability of the SMU on these social media platforms.
